Pemilu 2009: Act 2, TGIO

Pemilu 2009

(This is Part II of my rantings on Indonesia’s 2009 General Elections. This time it’s about the presidential elections. Part I –on the legislative elections– is here.)

If the quick count results are indeed to be any indicator of the upcoming official tally, then Indonesia has a new Vice President: Boediono

The President? Meh… Same old face: SBY …with the same old faces (just pretending to be new and ‘reformed’ ones) of ass-kissing opportunists each with their own interests whoring all around him. Like flies being attracted to a heap of trash.

Well, anyway… TGIO… Thank goodness it’s over…

With preliminary tally results showing SBY-Boediono garnering more than half of the votes, looks like they’ve secured the 2009-2014 presidential term in just one round of voting. Again, thank goodness for that, coz another round of all this election charade is just too much…

Anyway again… What’s interesting is: What of the losers?

Megawati, she might have just pushed the limits of loyalty from her supporters in PDI-P –she’s already lost twice against SBY. Though it’s usually the third strike that gets a player sent out, but giving it another shot in 2014? Come on… and SBY can’t run a third term anyway… so where’s the fun in this everlasting quest for revenge? (It’s said that Megawati felt betrayed by her then-minister SBY for running against her back in 2004, and actually defeated her.)

Move over, Megawati… gracefully at that, while you still can. Like considering to become the wise old sage for PDI-P or something like that…

JK, tough luck for him. Golkar will probably boot him as their chairman soon.

Internal bickering within Golkar –about whether JK and Golkar should remain with SBY and PD, or run for the presidency by themselves– is what’s said to be the reason for lacklustre support for JK’s campaign, and his eventual defeat.

There’s a chance that JK’s defeat will finally spell an end for Golkar… but maybe not. Those in Golkar who had wanted to keep whoring with SBY-PD all along will probably take the party’s helmet, and eventually return to whoring with SBY for a bit of power. And SBY may well welcome Golkar’s political whoring for the sake of keeping other political interests at check.

Gosh, those damn hypocrite Golkar parasites are so hard to kill off!

SBY might also have other reservations for JK, and if that’s the case, then maybe we’ll still be seeing him (and his faction in Golkar) around.

Wiranto, good riddance. Like Megawati, he’s already failed twice to become president. (At least Megawati got to be president once before). And if he ever tries for the third time, looking at the trend of his attempts –running for president in 2004, and then just for vice-president in 2009– let’s hope he’ll go even lower again… like running for president of a karaoke club (it’s said he likes to sing) or whatever.

Wiranto’s already lucky enough not to get tried for human rights violation during his military career, so to live up to the saying that “old generals never die, they just fade away”… why doesn’t he indeed just go fade away to obscurity somewhere…?

Now Prabowo might be a problem.

He may well try to run again in 2014, using these next five years to continue propping up his image, and dupe the all-too-forgetful-and-forgiving Indonesian public into thinking he’s a good guy fit to be their next president. (Hey, image propping and manipulation was what helped SBY win too.)

Forget about Prabowo’s tarnished human rights record during his military service. His kidnapping victims already forgave him and are now his best confidants, right? And he always talks about grassroots-based economy, right? Well, I just really really hope people will know better than to fall (again?) for that.

As for SBY, if this piece from a Kompas journalist who’s familiar with the presidential inner circles is true, then SBY sure has ambitions: United Nations Secretary General…

To wrap things up… The elections are over, but stay tuned for a little bit more of charades ahead. There’s still the cabinet formation after all. Let’s see what kind of politicking and jokes come out from that.

*long sigh*

And let’s see how the next five years shape up the politicking for 2014…

*longer sigh*

(though still hoping that Boediono and/or Sri Mulyani will have matured politically by then)
