Camera Obscura ("Let's Get Out of This Country" album cover)

I just discovered another rare gem of the contemporary music scene…

Camera Obscura.

And I’m enjoying their music like, A LOT. Everyone should. Go, go. Listen to them NOW if you haven’t. My recommendations… :p

Hailing from Glasgow, Camera Obscura strikes a tune with the likes of hometown peers Belle and Sebastian, yet still unique in their own way.

If only to compare them again with other bands that I also like, I’d have to mention: Mojave 3, The Sundays, Kings of Convenience. A tint of Feist, with some Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan thrown in as well.

The soothing harmony of vocals from Tracyanne Campbell and Carey Lander, blend ever-so-nicely with the band’s rich rhythms and melodies, molding together into lovely songs of day-dreaming and heart-wrenching themes. At times to the brink of that beautiful feeling of suicidal tendencies.

The band has actually been around since 1996, releasing singles and four albums so far –their latest album, “My Maudlin Career”, was released in 2009– but stupid me only learned about them just now :p

The featured pic above is from the cover of their 2006 album, “Let’s Get Out of This Country” –my favorite of their albums. Must-hear songs are “Dory Previn”, “The False Contender”, “Country Mile”, “Tears for Affairs”, “Come Back Margaret” and “Lloyd, I’m Ready to be Heartbroken”.

And below are some more pics of Camera Obscura’s album covers.

Of course, just reading about them and looking at pictures of their album covers is useless without actually listening to their music :p Nevertheless, here are some more info about Camera Obscura:
